CS Asia Championships 2026 kicks off Tuesday in Shanghai with a $1,000,000 total prize pool ($400,000 player share), 16 teams, and fewer than 10 days until the IEM Cologne Major. Perfect World hosts the fifth edition of the tournament at the Yuanshen Gymnasium, running May 20-24.
Falcons and MOUZ headline the field. Both arrive from PGL Astana, where Falcons reached the grand final before Spirit swept them 3-0, and MOUZ took third after getting demolished 2-0 in the semis by the same Spirit squad. Neither team won. Both need CAC 2026 in Shanghai to answer questions their Astana runs raised.
Who’s Playing in CAC 2026
The tournament features 14 invited teams based on February VRS rankings, plus TYLOO and Lynn Vision Gaming, who qualified through the Asian closed qualifier. Aurora were part of the original invite list but withdrew due to visa issues; Ninjas in Pyjamas replaced them.
Falcons, PARIVISION, and The MongolZ enter as the highest-ranked participants and the only three squads currently inside the HLTV top 10. MOUZ, Liquid, NiP, 3DMAX, and defending 2025 CAC champions Legacy round out the upper tier of contenders. NRG, paiN, M80, BC.Game Esports, MIBR, and B8 complete the field alongside the two Chinese qualifiers.
Vitality and NAVI are both absent. The two best teams in the world skipped Shanghai, which opens the bracket for everyone else.
Falcons Test the karrigan Project
This is only the second LAN for karrigan since joining Falcons in April. The Danish IGL replaced kyxsan after seven grand final appearances and just one trophy (PGL Bucharest 2025) under the previous leadership. In Astana, karrigan’s squad made the final but ran into a Spirit team that looked untouchable. donk posted a 1.61 tournament rating and shut down every strategy Falcons threw at him across three maps.
The firepower is not in question. m0NESY and kyousuke combined for a 1.36 and 1.45 rating in the group stage against The MongolZ, and NiKo called karrigan “a big showman” he was “excited to get on the stage with after eight years.” The question is whether karrigan can build a playoff system that converts talent into trophies before the Cologne Major begins on June 2. Shanghai gives him five more days of stage time with this roster.

MOUZ Run a Roster Experiment Before Cologne
MOUZ’s CAC lineup looks different from the one that will walk into the LANXESS arena. Brollan and Jimpphat sit on the bench. xelex, promoted from MOUZ NXT, and jL, on loan from NAVI, fill the gaps. xertioN calls. The 17-year-old xelex averaged a 1.21 rating across 154 academy maps in 2026. jL returned to competitive CS2 for the first time since leaving NAVI in July 2025.
Valve’s Major Supplemental Rulebook limits roster changes to one substitute from the April 6 invite list, so jL cannot play at Cologne. Brollan returns for the Major, xelex stays, and xertioN keeps the IGL seat. Shanghai is the only remaining test for the full five-man experiment before MOUZ split the lineup again.
In Astana, this version looked solid through groups and quarterfinals. Then Spirit destroyed them 13-3 and 13-2 in the semis. Third place and $96,000 came in the consolation match against magic.

Format and Schedule
Group Stage (May 20-22): Two groups of eight in a GSL double-elimination bracket. Opening matches are Bo1. All subsequent rounds are Bo3. Top three from each group advance to playoffs.
Playoffs (May 23-24): Single-elimination Bo3 bracket. Group winners start in the semifinals. Second and third-placed teams enter at the quarterfinals. The grand final is Bo5. A third-place decider is also scheduled.
CS2 Before the Cologne Major
The timing of CAC 2026 makes every match count double. IEM Cologne Major Stage 1 begins June 2, barely a week after Shanghai wraps up. For teams like Falcons and MOUZ, who are still integrating new players and new structures, this is the last competitive environment to sharpen their setups under pressure.
Falcons sit inside the HLTV top five. They have the talent to win this tournament. Whether karrigan has enough reps with NiKo, m0NESY, kyousuke, and TeSeS to push through a bracket that includes The MongolZ and PARIVISION remains the open question of their spring.
MOUZ carry less pressure but more uncertainty. Their Cologne roster will look different from their Shanghai one, and the disconnect between the two could cost them continuity at the worst possible time.
For the rest of the field, CAC 2026 in Shanghai is a chance to collect prize money, build momentum, and enter the Major with confidence. For Falcons and MOUZ, it is the last dress rehearsal before the biggest stage in Counter-Strike.
