Falcons just beat the #1 team in the world. NiKo and m0NESY dismantled Vitality 2-1 in the Group A Upper Bracket Final at IEM Rio 2026, and kyxsan, the IGL everyone was writing obituaries for 48 hours ago, delivered when it mattered most. Falcons advance straight to the semi-finals. Vitality drop to the quarters.
Final scoreline:
- Mirage โ 13:10 Falcons
- Dust2 โ 13:6 Vitality
- Nuke โ 16:14 Falcons
This is the biggest Falcons win of 2026. And the timing could not be louder.
How Falcons Beat Vitality at IEM Rio
Falcons opened on Mirage, their own pick, their comfort map, their playground. m0NESY ran the mid, NiKo cleaned up B, and Vitality never found an answer. 13-10, series lead, no panic.
Then Vitality did what Vitality do. Their Dust2 is a cheat code, a map they hadn’t lost on in months, and ZywOo flipped the switch. 13-6, brutal, clinical. Series tied. Everyone in the Farmasi Arena braced for the French steamroller to finish the job on Nuke.
It never came.
Nuke went 16-14, and it went to overtime because Falcons refused to die. kyxsan, the player the entire scene had mentally benched for karrigan 24 hours earlier, was composed in the biggest rounds of his year. m0NESY was the engine with consistent impact across all three maps. NiKo was the firepower. TeSeS and NucleonZ (in for kyousuke) held the structure. Five guys, zero wobble.
VRS shift:
- Falcons +47 pt โ 1866 pt (up to world #5)
- Vitality -24 pt โ 2069 pt (still #1, gap closing)
Vitality Lose UB Final in Rio: First Real Crack in the Armor
Vitality were 44-6 in map record over the last three months before this series. They entered Rio at world #1, with an ESL bounty of $100,000 on the table for the team that beats them in the Grand Final. That bounty is still live, assuming Vitality navigate the lower bracket to get there. But the aura just took a serious hit.
ZywOo had his moments on Dust2. apEX’s IGL calls on Nuke late-round got exposed, specifically in the overtime rifle rounds, where Falcons’ utility usage was simply cleaner. ropz and flameZ couldn’t bail the team out in the clutch. mezii was quiet across two of three maps.
Vitality now fall to the quarter-finals and need to win an extra series just to get back to the semi. The path to the title just got longer, and the VRS hit stings.
Kyxsan Answers the Karrigan Reports the Loudest Way Possible
Context matters here. Multiple outlets have reported Falcons are in advanced talks with karrigan to replace kyxsan as IGL after Rio, with sources suggesting the move is close to official. zonic has publicly dodged the question. NiKo has publicly dodged the question. kyxsan, asked directly by HLTV earlier this week, said: “My job is to come here and play, and that’s what I’m doing.”
He just did.
A huge series win on the biggest stage of his career, against the #1 team in the world, in the middle of a transfer storm aimed directly at his seat. The late-round call on the Nuke decider economy was his. Whatever happens in the transfer window, that tape exists now. Falcons are reportedly still moving on karrigan regardless, but the conversation inside the org just got a lot more awkward.
What’s Next: Falcons Semi-Final at IEM Rio 2026
Falcons jump to 5th in the world rankings. Their semi-final opponent will come out of the Group B bracket, either FURIA (live on home soil with the Brazilian crowd behind them) or MOUZ.
Vitality, meanwhile, face a quarter-final grinder. Spirit, NAVI, G2, FURIA, MOUZ โ pick your poison. The $125,000 first prize is still on the table. So is the $100K bounty, if they can claw their way back to Sunday.
First. Fastest. Fraggers. Falcons just woke up in Rio.
