ESL confirmed IEM Beijing 2026 on Monday, bringing the Intel Extreme Masters circuit back to China’s capital for the first time in seven years. The tournament runs November 2 through 8 at the Bloomage Biotech·Biohyalux ECM Arena in Wukesong, Haidian District, with $1,250,000 in total winnings on the line.
Sixteen teams will compete in what ESL is calling the largest standalone IEM event ever held in Asia. The expected attendance across six days sits above 45,000 fans, with gates open for every stage of the tournament, group play included.
What the Format Looks Like
The structure mirrors what ESL ran at IEM Chengdu 2025. Two eight-team double-elimination groups feed into a six-team single-elimination playoff bracket. The top three finishers from each group advance. All group stage matches are best-of-three. The grand final is best-of-five.
For the first time since IEM Rio Major 2022, ESL will deploy a 360-degree stage design for the arena. The setup puts the audience on all sides of the players, a production choice that Beijing’s venue can accommodate at scale.
EPT Masters Status and the Grand Slam Race
IEM Beijing 2026 carries EPT Masters status. It slots in as the third qualifying event for ESL Grand Slam Season VII, following IEM Atlanta (May) and ESL Pro League Season 24 in Katowice (October). Any team chasing the million-dollar Grand Slam bonus needs to factor Beijing into their calculations.
Vitality closed out Grand Slam Season VI with a dominant 3-0 over Team Spirit at IEM Rio in April. The French roster enters Season VII as the first team to win back-to-back Grand Slams, and Beijing could become the tournament where someone catches them or where they extend their lead.
Beijing Replaces Chengdu on the Calendar
ESL hosted IEM events in Chengdu in both 2024 and 2025. The move north to Beijing marks a shift in venue size and market focus. The Beijing Esports Industry Development Association is co-organizing the event as part of the broader “Beijing Esports” initiative.
The last time IEM visited Beijing was November 2019. Astralis swept 100 Thieves 3-0 in that grand final, with gla1ve earning the MVP. The Danish roster went undefeated through the entire event without dropping a single map. That 2019 tournament remains one of the final landmark LANs before COVID disrupted the international circuit.
Qualification and Slot Distribution
Ten teams are expected to receive Global VRS invites based on Valve Regional Standings. Additional direct slots go to leading teams from North America, South America, and Asia. Remaining spots will be filled through Global and Asian Closed Qualifiers, with VRS data from August 2026 determining the qualifier invite pool.
Ticketing details, team confirmations, and broadcast partnerships have not been announced. ESL indicated that signing sessions with all participating teams and on-site fan activities will run across all six days of the event.
