Vitality, Falcons, FURIA, and MOUZ have all secured playoff spots at IEM Rio 2026 after a clean Day 2 sweep in the upper bracket. No upsets. No chaos on the server. Every favored team advanced. The real drama? It’s happening everywhere else.

IEM Rio 2026 Recap: Upper Bracket Results

Vitality 2โ€“1 G2. The headline is the win. The subtext is the scare. G2, playing with academy stand-in tAk in place of the injured huNter-, snapped Vitality’s 24-map win streak on Mirage with a ruthless CT-side performance. HeavyGod, MATYS, and NertZ held Vitality to just five rounds, a perfect CT side locking in the win. Vitality recovered on Overpass and ground out a 13โ€“11 on Dust2, but apEX’s squad looked mortal for the first time in two months. One ESL trophy away from a historic second Grand Slam, they now face Falcons in the upper bracket final with slightly less aura than they walked in with.

Falcons 2โ€“0 Spirit. This was a demolition. Spirit picked Anubis and failed to win a single T-round, ending the map at 13โ€“4. Mirage was worse: m0NESY and NiKo ran a masterclass while donk posted a 0.30 rating, the lowest-rated map of his entire career. The final score read 13โ€“5. Falcons looked like the version of themselves everyone expected when the org signed m0NESY and kyousuke within a year. The irony is brutal: the roster has never played better, and sources tell FragWire it is about to change anyway.

FURIA 2โ€“1 NAVI. The series that had everything. NAVI obliterated FURIA on their Mirage pick (13โ€“3, iM posting a 2.07 rating), then FURIA returned the favor on Dust2 (13โ€“4) with molodoy finally delivering the kind of impact this Brazilian crowd has been demanding. The Nuke decider went to overtime after FURIA flipped a 2โ€“9 deficit in the second half, eventually closing it 16โ€“13. A failed knife attempt by makazze on molodoy in round 12 let FURIA keep the AWP alive, and that single moment shifted the entire map. The home crowd has its team in playoffs, and FalleN gets at least two more series in Rio.

MOUZ 2โ€“0 Aurora. The quietest result of the day, and the most comfortable. torzsi dismantled Aurora on their own Dust2 pick (13โ€“4), and Mirage ended 13โ€“8. Brollan sealed the deal with a four-kill round that included a 1v2 clutch. MOUZ needed a clean result after a string of poor events, and they got exactly that.

CS2 IEM Rio Standings After Day 2

Four teams are through to playoffs: Vitality and Falcons from Group A, FURIA and MOUZ from Group B. Six playoff slots remain open.

In the lower bracket, Day 2 already claimed victims. 3DMAX eliminated Liquid 2โ€“0 after Liquid choked a big lead on Nuke and then collapsed on Ancient. Liquid leave Rio without winning a single map across two series. HOTU knocked out hometown squad Legacy, ending the Brazilian side’s run before playoffs. B8 sent Passion UA packing, and RED Canids eliminated Gentle Mates, extending their losing streak to five consecutive series. The lower bracket is now set for elimination rounds that will fill the remaining playoff spots.

The Off-Server Storylines

Here’s why the IEM Rio 2026 recap leads with drama that has nothing to do with map scores.

karrigan to Falcons

Multiple sources, including insider KRL and independently confirmed by HLTV, report that karrigan will leave FaZe and join Falcons after this tournament. The 36-year-old Danish IGL would replace kyxsan, reuniting with NiKo for the first time in over seven years and linking up again with coach zonic, his former Astralis colleague. FaZe failed to qualify for the IEM Cologne Major 2026, and karrigan called it the lowest point of his career. NiKo addressed the noise directly in Rio, telling HLTV there is no distraction on his side. According to multiple reports, Falcons have already registered karrigan as a potential substitute for the Major ahead of the roster-lock deadline. The paperwork, it seems, is done.

kyxsan Playing His Last Series?

The man karrigan is reportedly replacing had one of the most composed days of anyone in Rio. kyxsan told HLTV his approach is simple: come here and play. He did exactly that, helping Falcons dismantle Spirit in straight maps. If this is indeed his farewell run with the roster, he’s making it uncomfortable for the org to explain the move. The North Macedonian IGL already posted a 1.43 rating on Day 1 against 3DMAX. Now he’s two-for-two and looking sharper than he has all year.

Brollan’s Statement Game

Brollan has been quietly excellent through two days in Rio, and the timing matters. MOUZ have had a rough stretch of results, and the Swedish star’s form is the clearest indicator of whether this core has another gear. His match-sealing four-kill round against Aurora, complete with a 1v2 clutch, was the kind of highlight-reel moment MOUZ desperately needed.

What’s Next: Day 3

Today decides who fills the remaining playoff spots. In Group A, G2 face 3DMAX in the lower bracket, with the winner playing Spirit for the last Group A slot. In Group B, NAVI play HOTU, and the survivor meets Aurora or B8 for the final Group B berth. The upper bracket finals (Vitality vs. Falcons, FURIA vs. MOUZ) determine seeding into the semifinal round at Farmasi Arena. Six spots on the line. For some of these teams, the tournament is one bad series from being over.

The server results say everything went to plan. The transfer market says the real tournament hasn’t even started yet.
