karrigan will play his first official match under the Falcons banner on May 9 when PGL Astana 2026 opens in Kazakhstan. His opponent: K27, a CIS squad that just added fame on a short-term loan and nearly qualified for the IEM Cologne Major.
PGL released the full set of Round 1 pairings for the $1,600,000 LAN on Sunday. The 16-team Swiss bracket kicks off with Bo1 openers on May 9 in Astana, running through to the playoffs at Barys Arena on May 17. The Falcons vs K27 fixture headlines the afternoon slate (13:00 local time), and it carries weight far beyond a Swiss opener. This is karrigan’s first competitive appearance since leaving FaZe on April 20, ending a five-year run that delivered the Antwerp Major, the Intel Grand Slam, and eight notable LAN trophies.
A New Falcons Roster With Old Connections
The Dane leads a lineup of NiKo, TeSeS, m0NESY, and kyousuke, with zonic coaching from behind. karrigan and NiKo last shared a roster at FaZe between 2017 and 2018, when the pair collected seven titles together. The reunion with zonic traces back even further.
kyxsan was moved to the bench the same day karrigan’s signing went live. The Macedonian IGL spent roughly 16 months on Falcons’ active roster and helped the team win PGL Bucharest 2025, but a string of runner-up finishes and underwhelming individual numbers forced the org’s hand. Falcons reached seven grand finals since absorbing the HEROIC core in January 2025. They converted one.
karrigan’s arrival is a bet on structure over continuity. Falcons have never lacked firepower. m0NESY posted the best group-stage stats at IEM Rio 2026, outperforming both donk and ZywOo. NiKo remains one of the most dangerous riflers in the server. The gap has been in round-to-round control and mid-series adjustments, and that is karrigan’s entire career pitch.
K27 Are Not a Gimme
K27 ranked #53 on HLTV and lack name recognition, but their European Qualifier run tells a different story. They pushed through a stacked bracket, knocked off 100 Thieves, and barely missed out on a Cologne Major berth. The late addition of Petr “fame” Bolyshev on loan gives them extra firepower in a roster built around X5G7V, xeedo, kashl1d, and qw1nk1.
A short-term loan limits how deep fame can integrate into the system, but his individual output raises the ceiling in aim duels where K27 previously lost ground.
Wide Open Field in Astana
Vitality (#1) and NAVI (#2) both declined invitations to PGL Astana. Their absence reshapes the entire tournament.
FURIA (#3) enter as the highest-ranked team in the draw and open against Monte. Aurora (#4), the Turkish super-roster led by MAJ3R and XANTARES, face HEROIC in the first match of the day, where former Aurora player xfl0ud will play against his old teammates. Falcons (#5) and Spirit (#6) round out the top seeds. Spirit take on The Huns in a BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 rematch. G2 draw Fisher College, the North American qualifier. MOUZ meet Gentle Mates, PARIVISION face 9z, and The MongolZ close the card against magic.
For karrigan, the stage could not be set better. Both world #1 and #2 are absent. A roster carrying NiKo, m0NESY, and a Major-winning IGL has no excuse to leave Astana empty-handed.
What karrigan Left Behind
FaZe confirmed karrigan’s departure on April 20 after a brutal 2026 that included a last-place finish at PGL Bucharest 2026 and a first-ever failure to qualify for the Major since FaZe entered CS in 2016. karrigan addressed it publicly, said the results had fallen below acceptable levels, and stepped aside. FaZe are now running with ENCE-benched Neityu as a temporary stand-in.
