karrigan is headed to Falcons. French insider KRL broke the story Saturday, and HLTV confirmed it independently: the Danish IGL will replace kyxsan on the Falcons roster following IEM Rio, with the move locked in ahead of the IEM Cologne Major 2026. The Major roster deadline is today, April 13.

This is, without exaggeration, one of the most consequential roster moves of the year. And the timing tells you everything.

karrigan Leaves FaZe After Historic Major Miss

Just over a week ago, FaZe failed to qualify for IEM Cologne, snapping a streak of 16 consecutive Major appearances dating back to MLG Columbus 2016. The collapse was total: a disastrous VRS campaign, an early exit at DraculaN Season 6, and then a gut-punch loss to BIG in the grand final of HLC Belgrade PRO, where karrigan posted a 2.32 rating on Dust2 before BIG flipped the series on Overpass and Anubis.

karrigan called it the lowest point of his career. He also said he was willing to step down if that’s what FaZe needed. Turns out, the answer came from a different org entirely.

This is the same FaZe that played the StarLadder Budapest Major grand final in December, losing 3-1 to Vitality. From Major finalist to not qualifying for the next one in under four months. That kind of freefall doesn’t happen to organizations with this pedigree.

What Falcons Get: the Most Decorated IGL in CS History

Let’s not overthink this. karrigan has 21 Major appearances, a Major title at PGL Antwerp 2022, and 24 LAN trophies across a career spanning more than a decade. He built the original FaZe superteam in 2017, proved he could develop young talent at mousesports, then came back to FaZe and won a Major with an international roster. Nobody else has that rรฉsumรฉ.

Falcons have the firepower to win anything: NiKo, m0NESY, kyousuke, TeSeS. They proved it by winning PGL Bucharest 2025. But since that trophy, the results have plateaued. Runner-up finishes at ESL Pro League Season 22, BLAST Rivals 2025 Season 2, and BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 tell the story: this team can reach finals but cannot close them against the best. They need a system, not more talent.

Falcons’ Path to the Cologne Major

Falcons are directly invited to IEM Cologne through the Valve Regional Standings, where they sit as one of the top-ranked European teams. That invite is locked regardless of the roster swap. karrigan steps into a team that already has its Major spot secured, giving him the luxury of focusing entirely on integration rather than scrambling for qualification points.

Falcons have three events before the Major begins on June 2: IEM Rio (where kyxsan will likely still play), PGL Astana, and CS Asia Championships in May. That’s roughly six weeks and two LAN outings with karrigan in the lineup before Stage 1 begins at the LANXESS arena in Cologne.

The karrigan-NiKo Reunion, Seven Years Later

Here’s where it gets narratively loaded. karrigan and NiKo haven’t played together since FaZe benched karrigan in late 2018. Back then, NiKo lost confidence in karrigan’s calling. FaZe chose the prodigy over the leader, and both went their separate ways.

karrigan joined mousesports, rebuilt, returned to FaZe, won a Major. NiKo went to G2, then to Falcons, and is still chasing that first Major trophy. Now karrigan walks back into NiKo’s team, reuniting a partnership that once nearly broke Counter-Strike at the ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018 before Cloud9 stunned them in overtime on Inferno.

The dynamic is different now. NiKo has been a strong secondary caller on Falcons, and sources indicate he’s supportive of the move. karrigan also gets to work with coach zonic again; the two were teammates on the original Astralis roster in 2016 before karrigan was benched.

How the Roles Could Look

The role puzzle is solvable on paper. In FaZe’s 2022 peak, karrigan built his system around a lurker (ropz), an aggressive entry duo, and a high-impact AWPer in broky. Falcons have the pieces to mirror that structure. NiKo slides back into lurk roles, similar to his pre-G2 days. kyousuke and TeSeS form the entry core. m0NESY does whatever m0NESY wants with the AWP. karrigan anchors it all.

The question isn’t whether the talent is there. It’s whether karrigan can install his system fast enough. Stage 1 kicks off June 2. The clock is already running.

kyxsan’s Departure and What It Means

Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski joined Falcons as part of the HEROIC core acquisition in early 2025 and served as IGL for roughly a year and a half. The North Macedonian captain helped the team to a PGL Bucharest 2025 title, but the tenure since has been defined by inconsistency. Multiple analysts have noted overlapping roles between kyousuke and the rest of the lineup under kyxsan’s system, and Falcons’ mid-round calling lacked the structure needed to beat Vitality consistently.

There’s no official word yet on kyxsan’s next destination. Multiple sources tell FragWire that several teams have already made inquiries.

FaZe’s Problem Just Got Worse

karrigan’s exit leaves FaZe without their IGL and without a head coach after NEO was sacked earlier this year. The team now starts PGL Bucharest 2026 with a 0-2 record after forfeiting early matches to attend Belgrade. frozen remains the squad’s most consistent performer and is reportedly exploring his options. broky has averaged a 0.93 rating since the Budapest run.

FaZe now have until April 29 and the start of BLAST Rivals 2026 Season 1 to figure out a five-man roster. That is not a lot of time, and the available IGL market is thin.

The Pressure on karrigan at the Cologne Major

Falcons didn’t bring karrigan in to build for 2027. This is a win-now move before the biggest event of the first half of 2026, a $1.25 million Major at one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic venues. Falcons want to dethrone Vitality, the back-to-back defending champions who beat karrigan’s own FaZe in the Budapest final just four months ago. karrigan is the bet that experience and structure can unlock what raw talent alone could not.

According to multiple sources, both karrigan and NiKo see this as potentially their last realistic window. karrigan turns 36 tomorrow. NiKo still doesn’t have a single Major trophy. The stakes could not be higher.

If karrigan cracks this roster, it becomes one of the great late-career moves in esports history. If he doesn’t, Falcons will have burned their last card before the biggest tournament of the year.

Neither side has officially confirmed the transfer yet, but all indications point to an announcement within hours. The roster deadline is today.

Sources tell FragWire: this one is done.
