donk earned his 11th career MVP after posting a 1.61 rating across 14 maps at PGL Astana 2026, and HLTV’s EVP and All-Stars breakdown confirms what the bracket already told us: Team Spirit ran this tournament from start to finish.
The 19-year-old was named player of the map eight times, averaged 0.98 kills per round, and never dipped below a 1.22 rating on any individual map. His peak sat at 2.07. Those numbers make this the second-best rated MVP performance at a CS2 Big Event, trailing only donk’s own debut at IEM Katowice 2024. With this award, he passes NiKo and GeT_RiGhT on 10 to become the most awarded rifler in HLTV history.
Spirit Claim Three of Five All-Stars Spots
HLTV’s All-Stars team at PGL Astana reads like a Spirit roster announcement. magixx takes the IGL slot after stepping into more preparation work under stand-in coach S0tF1k, with Spirit’s flash assist numbers climbing throughout the event. donk fills the opener role, and tN1R locked down the closer position after a dominant playoff run that pushed him ahead of 9z’s dgt. The two remaining picks round out the lineup: m0NESY at AWPer for Falcons, and HeavyGod of G2 at anchor, retaining his spot from BLAST Rivals.
Three Spirit players holding All-Stars positions at a single Big Event underscores the gap between Spirit and every other team in Astana. The timing matters, too. IEM Cologne Major starts on June 2, less than two weeks away.
Eight EVPs Across Six Teams
HLTV awarded eight EVPs at the $1.6 million event, the largest non-Major prize pool of 2026 so far.
sh1ro earned Spirit’s only EVP. His CT-side stability provided the platform for donk’s aggression throughout the tournament, and his consistency across 14 maps kept Spirit’s structure intact even when individual maps turned chaotic.
m0NESY led Falcons into the grand final and was the leading MVP contender before the last series, but a quiet final left him well behind donk in the race. Still, a top EVP finish at his first event under karrigan’s in-game leadership validates the early returns on that roster move. kyousuke picked up the second Falcons EVP with his strongest playoff showing since his debut at IEM Cologne last year. At 18, the Japanese rifler delivered consistency from Swiss stage through to the final that had been missing in previous LAN appearances at Chengdu and Rotterdam.
xertioN was MOUZ’s standout performer. The Israeli opener was player of the map seven times, one fewer than donk, and posted 120 ADR in round wins over the tournament sample. Back-to-back demolitions of Aurora in the quarterfinals boosted those figures, though a 0.69 semi-final rating against Spirit kept him below m0NESY in the final EVP ranking.
molodoy represented FURIA’s strongest individual showing, with the Kazakh star playing on home soil delivering several high-impact maps before Falcons ended FURIA’s run in a triple-overtime quarterfinal. dgt from 9z rounded out the confirmed names with strong rifling and clutch play through a deep Swiss stage run.
What Astana Means for the Cologne Major
Spirit left Kazakhstan with more than a trophy. They left with a perfect series record, a 3:0 grand final sweep (Dust2 16-12, Mirage 13-7, Ancient 13-10), and back-to-back PGL Astana titles after also winning the 2025 edition. The nine-month trophy drought is over.
The earlier narrative around Spirit in 2026 focused on individual brilliance without collective results. A grand final at IEM Rio changed some of that perception. PGL Astana changes the rest. donk noted after the win that his goal is to make his teammates shine, and the flash assist numbers under S0tF1k’s system keep climbing. When a player posting a 1.61 event rating says the team structure matters more than his own stats, the CS2 best players in May 2026 lean toward Spirit’s side of the bracket.
Vitality remain the dominant force with ZywOo collecting his 30th MVP at PGL Cluj-Napoca earlier this year. But Spirit now sit as the clearest challenger heading into Cologne. For karrigan and Falcons, a runner-up finish at his first event with the roster suggests the ceiling is high. For MOUZ, xertioN’s breakout confirms that the roster overhaul with jL on loan from NAVI is producing the firepower they lacked in early 2026.
The IEM Cologne Major starts June 2 and will answer whether Astana was Spirit’s launchpad or their peak. Based on the PGL Astana 2026 EVP All-Stars distribution, the rest of the field should hope for the latter.
