G2 and PARIVISION meet in the most loaded elimination match of PGL Astana 2026 today, with the loser heading home empty-handed and zero VRS points banked before IEM Cologne Major in June.
Both teams arrived in Kazakhstan as top-12 squads on the HLTV rankings. Both expected to make playoffs. Neither will get a second chance after today’s Round 4 best-of-three.
How G2 Got Here
G2 opened the Swiss stage with a comfortable 2-0 over Fisher College on Day 1 and looked like a team with something to prove. Day 2 changed the script fast. MOUZ took them down 2-1, with xertioN dismantling G2’s structure on Inferno to flip the series. Still alive at 1-1, G2 drew The MongolZ in Round 3 and lost 0-2 on Dust2 and Inferno. 910 dropped 30 kills in an Inferno that went to double overtime (19-15), and G2 had no answers in the closing rounds.
The roster of huNter-, NertZ, SunPayus, HeavyGod, and MATYS sit at 1-2 with one series left before the exit door.
PARIVISION’s Collapse
For PARIVISION, Astana has been a disaster. 9z swept them 2-0 in the opening round with scorelines of 13-6 and 13-8, a brutal start for a team that reached the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 Grand Final against Vitality just three months ago. They recovered on Day 2 by crushing Fisher College 2-0, but Round 3 sent them right back into freefall. Aurora took the series 2-0, with Wicadia pulling off a ridiculous 1v4 on Anubis and the Turkish-led roster grinding out a 16-14 Dust2 to seal it.
Jame, BELCHONOKK, xiELO, nota, and zweih now face elimination against a G2 squad fighting for survival with equal desperation.
What’s at Stake Beyond Astana
The timing makes this brutal. IEM Cologne Major 2026 starts on June 2. Both G2 and PARIVISION need VRS points to secure favorable seeding, and going home at 1-3 from a Tier 1 event does the opposite. PARIVISION spent a reported $3 million on transfers to build a roster capable of winning at the top level. G2 rebuilt around huNter- after losing NiKo and m0NESY to Falcons, and the new core of SunPayus, HeavyGod, and MATYS still hasn’t delivered a signature result. Neither org can afford to watch the Cologne Major from a bad seed.
PGL Astana Day 4 Schedule: The Full Picture
G2 vs PARIVISION is the headline, but the rest of the slate matters just as much.
In the 2-1 pool, three spots for the playoffs are on the line. FURIA (2-1) take on Gentle Mates (2-1) with the winner locking in their spot. Falcons (2-1) face The MongolZ (2-1) in a match that puts karrigan against the team that just eliminated G2. MOUZ (2-1) play Aurora (2-1) in a series that could send the Turkish squad to the playoffs after an incredible lower-bracket run.
In the 1-2 elimination pool alongside G2 vs PARIVISION, HEROIC face magic and Monte play The Huns. Three teams go home today.
Spirit and 9z have already qualified at 3-0 and will wait for their playoff opponents.
The Matchup Nobody Predicted
G2 have better individual firepower on paper. SunPayus can take over a map with the AWP, and huNter- showed flashes against MongolZ with an ace on Inferno. But this roster has a consistency problem. They build leads and throw them. They win pistol rounds and lose conversions. The structural issues that plagued their Round 2 and Round 3 series are not the kind of thing a team fixes overnight in a hotel lobby.
PARIVISION have Jame, and Jame in do-or-die situations is a different player. The man nearly dragged Virtus.pro to relevance through sheer willpower, and his AWP in elimination scenarios has carried teams before. But the rest of the roster looks flat. xiELO and nota haven’t found their form in Astana, and PARIVISION’s tactical execution has looked predictable since the Aurora loss.
One of these rosters plays at least two more days. The other packs bags for the airport. Tune in to PGL’s broadcast at 16:00 ALMT to find out which.
