Team Spirit are the PGL Astana 2026 champions. magixx and company demolished Team Falcons in a lopsided grand final on Sunday, closing the series 3-0 (Dust2 16-12, Mirage 13-7, Ancient 13-10) without dropping a single series across the entire tournament.

donk earned his first MVP medal of 2026 and the 11th of his career after posting a 1.61 HLTV rating for the event. That number is the second-best MVP performance at a CS2 Big Event, behind only his own debut at IEM Katowice 2024. In the grand final alone, the 19-year-old put up 62 kills, 94.4 ADR, and a 1.52 rating across three maps. He topped the scoreboard on 71% of the maps he played all tournament and never dipped below 1.22.

Spirit did all of this without head coach hally, who has been sidelined since early April due to health issues. Academy coach S0tF1k, the man who trained donk and zont1x during their formative years in Team Spirit Academy, stepped in for both IEM Rio and PGL Astana. The results speak for themselves: a grand final appearance in Rio, a trophy in Astana.

karrigan’s Falcons Debut Ends in a Shutout

Finn “karrigan” Andersen picked Astana as the stage for his Falcons debut, and the early rounds looked promising. Falcons bulldozed through K27, Monte, FURIA, and magic on their way to the final, with kyousuke delivering some of the best individual numbers of the event. But Spirit’s structure suffocated them when it mattered most.

NiKo finished the grand final with a 0.76 rating. karrigan himself went 32-56 with a 0.66. Even m0NESY, who carried Falcons through most of the playoffs, could only manage an even 1.00 in the final. Spirit’s aggressive rotations and retake setups on CT-sides dismantled everything Falcons tried to build.

The Dust2 Turnaround Set the Tone

Map one told the whole story. donk opened the series 0-6 on Dust2 and Falcons grabbed an early lead. For a brief window, it looked like karrigan’s IGL experience might dictate the pace. Then donk woke up. He went 7-2 in overtime, winning critical duels against m0NESY and kyousuke, and Spirit closed the map 16-12.

Mirage was over before it started. Falcons lost opening duels constantly and their T-side collapsed. Spirit cruised to 13-7. On Ancient, the closing act, Falcons put up more resistance at 13-10, but donk pulled off a 1v3 clutch that became the highlight of the tournament and sealed it.

Nine Months Without a Title, Then This

Spirit’s last trophy came at BLAST Bounty Season 2 in the summer of 2025. For most of early 2026, donk kept fragging at a superstar level while the team struggled to convert individual talent into consistent results. That changed at IEM Rio, where Spirit reached the grand final (lost to Vitality), and continued in Astana with a flawless run.

magixx acknowledged the shift in his post-final interview: “At the beginning of the year we spent a lot of time building our game. I think because of that we had a hard time. But the way we’re performing at the last two events is impressive. Our game speaks for itself.”

Spirit collected $512,000 for first place out of a $1.6M total prize pool. Sixteen teams competed at Barys Arena in Astana from May 9 to 17.

What Comes Next

Spirit enter the IEM Cologne Major as one of the most dangerous teams on the planet. Vitality remain the team to beat in 2026, but Spirit are the clearest challenger to that throne right now. And the coaching situation adds another layer: hally is expected to return for the Major, which could shift Spirit’s setup again just as S0tF1k has found his rhythm. After the semifinal, S0tF1k told HLTV: “We will see after Astana.”

For Falcons, the silver medal still carries value. Reaching a final in karrigan’s very first event together is a strong signal. But the 3-0 scoreline exposed how far this roster still needs to go before karrigan’s tactical depth can match the raw firepower of NiKo and m0NESY. The IEM Cologne Major will be the real exam.

donk put it simply after the win: “This win is a great sign ahead of the Major. We’re playing more as a team, trusting each other more. I haven’t changed anything specifically, honestly. I just play my game.”

He played it at 1.61. Good luck stopping that in Cologne.
